AGM 2011 Summary Report

Our AGM, held on Sturday 4 June 2011, used the excellent upstairs room (with bar) at the Victoria, 10A Strathearn Place, W2. Attendance was adversely affected by the refusal of England to postpone their match that night at Wembley (riots yes: SCSSC AGM no). Those present were in the mood to celebrate the club’s excellent season.

Under the careful stewardship of the Treasurer (thanks, Neil) the SCSSC broke even, so the membership sub will remain unchanged yet again. Julia reported that membership figures were holding up and new interest in the club had been aroused by our team’s Wembley exploits. Neil was congratulated on a great yearbook and regular newsletter throughout the season. Garry Zuk administered our club’s season ticket into a (very) small profit and even found time to pass on some unwanted Cup Final tickets to needy members.

The officers were duly re-elected, as was the committee, excepting Jeff Lea who is taking a well earned rest after many years of valuable service.

Three motions were successfully carried. Firstly, a rule change now limits the Chairman to three successive years in office. Secondly, the meeting congratulated Tony Pulis and the team on a wonderful season, and, thirdly, a motion to the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) sought help for London supporters in their fight for the return of group travel. Unfortunately, we missed the deadline for this year’s Fans Parliament, so the motion will wing its way there next year.

The evening ended with convivial chat on all things Stokie.

Website improvements - latest update

We are currently upgrading our website. The changes we are planning to make (together with latest progress) are outlined below.
  • Implement 'content management system' that will allow permitted users to update most pages on the website via a simple to use web browser interface, i.e. without the need for specialist web design software. The idea is that this will allow others to get involved with updating the website with the hope that we will be able to keep it more up to date than before! The system will also be set up such that ‘expired’ articles, e.g. items that relate to a specific match, will be automatically removed. At the same time we are adding a ‘related content’ column to some pages which we intend to use to provide links to other pages relevant to the page being viewed.
Progress update 21 Oct 11: this is now in place for the most commonly updated pages and will be rolled out to other pages over the coming months.
  • Update (or remove) some of the little used pages that are clearly out of date. As we do this, in some cases we may also modify the main menu structure to make things easier to find.
Progress update 21 Oct 11: this has started and will continue over the coming months. We plan to update pages as we migrate them to the new ‘system’ described above.
  • A new masthead to replace the old one (especially as the new column makes the page wider now!).
    Not started yet.
Please note that whilst we implement the changes some temporary gremlins may arise from time to time. In particular some links may stop working because most of the page names are changing, by necessity, from *.htm to *.asp. If you spot any problems, let us know (website). We may already be aware of it and be planning to fix it, but it is also possible that we have missed something.

Committee meetings

Please note that the venue for our committee meetings is (typically) alternating between the and Hatter and The Victoria. For more infomrmation please contact us (club).

FSF membership FREE

Anyone can now join the Football Supporters Federation for free, and we encourage you to do so. Please note that you will have to pay extra if you wish to receive their printed publications: the ‘Football Supporter’ and ‘Free Lions’. Join online at www.fsf.org.uk/join. SCSSC will continue to hold a club affiliation and will donate to the FSF.

SCSSC on Facebook

SCSSC now has its own Facebook page. We already have over 100 'fans'. For those of you who are Facebook users, simply search for us and add yourself as a fan. You can find us here.

We set this up with no pre-conceived ideas on how we were going to use it. We simply go with the flow. As well as advertising ourselves we try to use it to keep our members better informed on club announcements, social events and the like.

There are no plans to get rid of this main website, but we realise that Facebook is potentially an easier way for SCSSC to get info to some of its members, and it could also allow members to safely get in touch with each other.

Whilst I (the Webmaster) have set it up, I am keen to stand aside and let others run it (as Administrators). If you would like to help with this, sign up to the page, get in touch by sending us a message, and then I can grant you admin rights. Whilst anyone, including non members, will be able to join the page as a ‘fan’, only SCSSC members would be allowed to be ‘Admin’.

Magazine spares for sale

We have a handful of spare 09/10 and 08/09 magazines that we are willing to sell to members or other interested Stokies. There are also a few left from 07/08 (promotion special), 06/07 and just one from 05/06. We are willing to sell these to anyone interested for £5 each including P&P (this may sound a lot, but they are high quailty, full colour, with an original unit cost of printing of over £6!). We may be able to discount for multiple orders. If interested, please contact us (editor).

SCSSC business cards

We have created some SCSSC ‘business cards’, incorporating our contact details. These are handy for giving to any potential new recruits that you may meet. If you would like some of these cards to hand out, please contact us (using the "General club matters" option, and we will send them with your newsletter.

Your own @scssc.co.uk email address – FREE!

Fed up of having JohnSmith678@btinternet.com or some other incomprehensible email address. SCSSC is pleased to announce an alternative!

We can now offer to our members, completely free of charge, club email addresses using the @scssc.co.uk domain. For example, you could be john.smith@scssc.co.uk or delboy@scssc.co.uk or whatever takes your fancy (as long as no-one has beaten you to it!) Your scssc address will only be a ‘forwarding’ address and you will still need a ‘real’ email account and address (such as BT, Tiscali, Virgin, Tesco etc.). In other words, any emails sent to your scssc address will simply be 'bounced' on to your 'real' address.

If you wish to take advantage of this offer, this is what you need to do:
  • contact us using the contact form (select "This website" option)<\li>
  • state your preferred email name, i.e. the bit before the @scssc.co.uk<\li>
  • state which address(es) you wish your emails to be forwarded to (we will check these before setting up the forwarding)
This service is offered as a favour to members, and we reserve the right to withdraw it if circumstances dictate (e.g. we have to change web hosting provider to one that doesn't support this). In addition, we reserve the right to withdraw the service from any individual if we suspect that it has been abused.

For reasons of privacy and security, only the webmaster and assistant webmaster will have the necessary permissions to set up the service.

You can instruct us to stop the forwarding at any time.
