SCSSC home matches

Travel

Our members travel by all means to home matches. Many drive from various locations in the south (check out our car share messageboard) and some take the train. For midweek and some Sunday matches we run a minibus from London. See our main travel pages for arrangements for forthcoming matches

Our pre-match pub - The White Star

Having travelled so far, many of our members, particularly those not driving, like to grab a pint or two before the match.

This season, the southern Stokies watering hole of choice is The White Star in Stoke town centre, near to Bourne Sports. It is a newly opened pub but we know the landlady very well as she previously ran The Greyhound in Penkhull. There is an excellent selection of Titanic ales on tap. Food is also available.

It is also very conveniently placed for the shuttle buses to the Brit which run from just across the road in Glebe Street.

Please do join us. if don't know us but would like to meet up, contact us beforehand and we will sort something out.

Despite being in Stoke town centre, the pub was fairly quiet for the first match. However, this may not last and we recommend that you have your SCSSC membership card with you as this may help you to get in should the pub introduce a ticket only policy. Please note that it is a home fans only pub.

The White Star, 63 Kingsway, Stoke, ST4 1JF. Tel 01782 848732

Parking / Pub suggestion for those driving from the south

Having problems parking and getting away in good time at the Brit?

If the answer is yes, then here is a less stressful alternative that you could try. For those driving from the south it is convenient and will probably save you time. You can also get a pint and some grub with fellow Stokies, in a relatively relaxed atmosphere.

Drive to the Three Crown pub on the southern outskirts of Stone (direction below). This is about 10 minutes drive from J14 of the M6 on a route that runs alongside the motorway, so you do not lose any time. The pub has a large car park.

Then take the Copelands coach direct to the Brit. This picks up from opposite the pub about 1 hour 10 minutes before kick-off – just follow the crowd. The cost is £4 per person return (no discounts for kids). No advance booking is required. The coach returns to the pub straight after the match.

Directions the Three Crowns, Lichfield Road, Stone, ST15 8QU:
Leave M6 at J14 and follow signs to Stone (A34)
Follow A34 south for 4 miles until roundabout with A51.
Take A51 (3rd exit) and follow this for ¾ mile.
Turn sharp left onto B5027, towards Stone.
After ¼ mile, The Three Crowns is on the right.
