SCSSC AGM Friday 6th June at the Dartmouth Arms

We are now able to confirm that our AGM will be held on Friday 6th June, with formalities starting at 7.30pm.

We have decided to return to the Dartmouth Arms, scene of our well attended 2006 event and a venue well known to many London based Stokies. Nick will be laying on the usual hospitality.

Of course, we will be hoping that this will be doubling up as our promotion party, in which case it should be a cracking night.

Dartmouth Arms: 35 York Rise, London NW5 1SP. Tel: 0207 485 3267. www.dartmoutharms.co.uk. Click here for map.

Committee members wanted!

All of the committee have been nominated for re-election. However, we do have an unfilled vacancy and we are very keen to get new blood on the committee this year. It is potentially an exciting and eventful year to come - we have our 40th anniversary event to arrange and this season's excitement has led to recent a surge of interest in our own club.

If you would like to stand for the committee, then please contact us via email, our website, or contact any committee member, or just come along to the AGM. The same applies if you have any issues you wish to raise.

Members announcements

A belated warm welcome to our newest member:
Curtis Bowles from Surrey

Your webmaster also has some news - I have recently got myself engaged to Kerry. Believe it or not, despite both being football fans we are planning to hold the wedding in the middle of next season!

John Ritchie Tribute

The bust of John Ritchie was unveiled by his family in the presence of Stoke City officials and supporters before the Ipswich match. Pictured above, it is located outside Block 23 of the Boothen End, and is well worth a visit. (Photo by John Barnes - many thanks).

As noted in our last newsletter, we are one of a number of supporters’ clubs that have made a donation towards its costs. We are hoping to cover the £500 that we have initially committed by donations from our individual members. We have already received a good response and are close to that target, but we are still hoping to collect more for the fund.

Please send your donations to: Julia Zuk, 97 Blossom Way, West Drayton, UB7 9HG. Cheques payable to SCSSC.

Waddington suite Prize draw winners / tickets

Congratulations to Steve Heath, John Barnes and David Jarman, winners of tickets to the Waddington Suite for our match against Ipswich on 23 February. Photos from the event can be found here.

Travel updates by email

Members can now choose to receive an email when we make a significant additions or changes to the travel details on our website.

Please contact us (subject: any of the travel items) or send us an email if you wish to take advantage of this. You may nominate as many email addresses as you wish.

In future we plan to simplify the system by allowing you to register online rather than having to send us an email.

If the system works well, we will use it as the basis of our proposed car share notificaiton system.

Cover star - again!

Our chairman, a certain Mr Les Tuck, not content withgracing the cover of SCSSC's 2006 magazine (left), has managed to land another 'cover star' slot. This time it is the NASC Yearbook 2007 (National Access and Scaffolding Confederation). You can see that the location is the same as on our cover - at the top of Nelson's column - Les is the one with his back turned bottom right of the photo.

Your own @scssc.co.uk email address – FREE!

Fed up of having JohnSmith678@btinternet.com or some other incomprehensible email address. SCSSC is pleased to announce an alternative!

We can now offer to our members, completely free of charge, club email addresses using the @scssc.co.uk domain. For example, you could be john.smith@scssc.co.uk or delboy@scssc.co.uk or whatever takes your fancy (as long as no-one has beaten you to it!) Your scssc address will only be a ‘forwarding’ address and you will still need a ‘real’ email account and address (such as BT, Tiscali, Virgin, Tesco etc.). In other words, any emails sent to your scssc address will simply be 'bounced' on to your 'real' address.

If you wish to take advantage of this offer, this is what you need to do:

  • contact us usign the contact form (select "This website" option)
  • state your preferred email name, i.e. the bit before the @scssc.co.uk
  • state which address(es) you wish your emails to be forwarded to (we will check these before setting up the forwarding)

This service is offered as a favour to members, and we reserve the right to withdraw it if circumstances dictate (e.g. we have to change web hosting provider to one that doesn't support this). In addition, we reserve the right to withdraw the service from any individual if we suspect that it has been abused.

For reasons of privacy and security, only the webmaster and assistant webmaster will have the necessary permissions to set up the service.

You can instruct us to stop the forwarding at any time.

SCSSC business cards

We have created some SCSSC ‘business cards’, incorporating our contact details. These are handy for giving to any potential new recruits that you may meet. If you would like some of these cards to hand out, please contact us (using the "General club matters" option, nd we will send them with your newsletter.

Any news to share?

If you have any ‘news’ to share with us on this page (and in the Newsletter column), such as births, weddings, qualifications, relocations etc., or anything else of interest to other members, then please contact us (using the "membership info" option).
